In her introduction, author Hiba Noor Khan says this book is for everyone who has ever looked around them and wondered how, or asked why? It certainly goes a long way towards explaining the science – and physics in particular – in the world around us. It opens with a spread on atoms, ‘the world’s tiny building blocks’, moves onto solids, liquids and gasses (that includes an explanation of farts), friction, pressure and gravity.
Each page is packed with information, all presented in ways that emphasise the wonder of it all while laying out the science with admirable clarity. Things get bigger and wilder towards the end, the final pages looking at Black Holes (which could spaghettify your dog), time travel and what would happen if the world suddenly stopped spinning. Readers will finish with a sense of awe and a really solid understanding of our universe.

About Hiba Noor Khan
Hiba Noor Khan is an England-based writer and activist, deeply engaged with issues in development, immigration and intercultural understanding. Her academic background is in Physics and Engineering and she completed postgraduate study in 2015 at the University of Oxford. Since then she has worked as a Refugee Advocacy Worker for The Children's Society, a Physics teacher and TV presenter. She also contributed to policy research carried out by the Government's Commission on Religion and Belief in Public Life. Hiba has worked on various sustainable development projects in rural Tanzania, and delivered aid to Syrian refugees in Turkey. Hiba is studying an MA at SOAS.
