Hopefully everyone has heard of Marie Curie, Rosalind Franklin and Ada Lovelace, pioneers in science. But what about Grace Hopper, credited as the mother of computer programming, or Nobel Prize winners Rita Levi-Montalcini or Maria Goeppert-Mayer? Despite all the obstacles put in their way, women scientists have been getting to the head of their fields for thousands of years and this book celebrates 50 of them.
There’s a double page on each brilliant woman, full of information about their lives, backgrounds and achievements, and handsomely designed and illustrated too. There are timelines, plus statistics and, a really inspiring touch, quotes from the scientists on nearly every page. A book to excite and energize girls and boys alike.

Women in Science Synopsis
A recent U.S. Department of Education survey found that high school girls take the same number of math and science classes as boys and earn slightly higher grades, but only 15 percent of U.S. collegiate women major in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Encouraging young women and girls to pursue STEM career tracks has never been more important.
Women in Science highlights notable women's contributions to various scientific fields and inspires readers both young and old. A fascinating collection full of striking, singular art, the book features 50 profiles and illustrated portraits of women in STEM from the ancient to the modern world, and also contains infographics about interesting and relevant topics such as lab equipment and rates of women currently working in STEM fields.
Profiles feature well-known figures, such as biologist Rachel Carson and primatologist Jane Goodall, as well as lesser-known pioneers, such as Dr. Patricia Bath, the first African-American woman to receive a medical patent, and Barbara McClintock, a Nobel Prize-winning cytogeneticist.

With short, inspiring stories and the accessibility of a graphic novel, Women in Science: 50 Fearless Pioneers Who Changed The World is the perfect book to share with the science- and tech-minded people (male and female, young and old) in your life ... The must-read, girl-power STEM book. InStyle.com
The book is a beautifully curated collection of personal narratives from female scientists from a wide variety of backgrounds and disciplines, with a dash of whimsy thrown in. Upworthy
If there were constellations celebrating the incredible accomplishments of women in science, Rachel Ignotofsky's illustrations would serve as the blueprints. Women in Science captures the joy of so many essential discoveries while also celebrating the extraordinary lives of the women who've achieved them. -- Rachel Swaby, author of Headstrong: 52 Women Who Changed Science and the World
