"A fun fishy story that’s both informative and inspiring."
July 2026 Debut of the Month
With a memorable rhyming text and brightly illustrated underwater scenes, this engaging picture book tells young children lots about the symbiotic relationships between marine creatures, at the same time reminding us all of the importance of getting along.
Our guide Leon, a happy, smiling bright yellow boxfish, shows us round the reef, introducing friends Turtle and Remora the sucker fish, Goby and Shrimp who share a burrow, and Cleaner, who darts in and out of the Hammerhead Shark’s mouth, picking clean those sharp teeth.
In each case, the two very different fish trust each other and work together: ‘Looking so different, but getting along.’ When Leon gets trapped in a plastic bag, fortunately there’s someone there to help him too. The author Dr Marc Abraham OBE (aka Marc the Vet) provides more information in the end pages about the way these marine animals help one another and encourages more human co-operation too.
Great to look at and read aloud, this story is informative and inspiring in equal parts. I Could Be Eaten by a Shark by Marcela Ferreira and Mark Chambers also has shark facts and a positive message.
