This is a wonderful coming-of-age novel that every teenage boy will empathise with, and every teenage girl will glean insight from. Whilst constructing a moving narrative, the novel also explores a number of issues, including single parenthood, absentee fathers, truancy and bullying. Fish in the Sky truly captures the difficult but exciting transition from adolescence to adulthood. A book that will provoke the reader to both laughter and tears in equal measure.
Josh Stephenson's 13th year starts with a baffling sequence of events. His 17 year old girl cousin moves into their house, his bedroom becomes a corridor and everything changes, not least himself.
