Whisker is a cat and Tails is a fox and their adventures spread a message about friendship and community spirit. Each page is illustrated as though the story was written on individual sheets of paper, then the start of each chapter features a fuller illustration of a scene including our main characters. The illustrations in this book are bright and colourful and the animals featured throughout are very sweet. This layout does make the book more text-heavy than what I would consider a usual picture book, so I think it would be more suitable for older picture book readers who don’t necessarily need illustrations to accompany all of the text, perhaps at least 5+. The version I read had some errors and duplication, so I wouldn’t recommend this book until those are corrected.
Both Whiskers and Tails are happy, brave and clever characters that animal loving readers will love. They both show kindness when they share their adventures and the magic they discover with the rest of the village and gives the book a very positive overall feel. Each story is self-contained so this could work as a collection of little bedtime stories, reading one story a night.
