More great reads: the best books for 7 year olds
In a nutshell: funny stories of a unicorn dreaming of fame in the Big Apple | Louie the unicorn is happily settled at the New York School for the Performing Arts; mind you, he’s so determined to always look on the bright side, it’s hard to imagine Louie anything other than happy.
He’s facing a challenge though: he’s been accidentally signed up to compete in an important dance competition in which the reputation of his school is at stake. Everyone – except Louie – knows that he’s not the greatest dancer, can his self-belief win the day? The daft set up and Louie’s constant misreading of situations and fellow students make these stories genuinely funny, and there’s a warmth too that comes from his never-ending optimism. Spending time with Louie is lots of fun!
Readers looking for funny illustrated stories will also enjoy Pamela Butchart’s books, The Bolds by Julian Clary and David Roberts, and Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre’s adventure stories for young readers. ~ Andrea Reece
