Mr Nobody by Natalie Gordon introduces us to Katie and her family as her world is about to be turned upside down. Her gran isn’t very well and is coming to live with them, meaning that she will have to share a room with her moody teenage sister, Lou. Told from the perspective of 9-year old Katie and her gran Vera, this story authentically handles the struggles of big family changes, conflict with siblings, bullying and the mixed emotions of coping with and living with a family member with dementia.

There are a lot of tough subjects and emotions handled within this book, with lighter moments when Katie spends time with Margaret and Hugo. The writing is very emotive, and I really felt for Katie, as she has to move rooms and feels lost with the events around her. Although I think that the writing style and target age of this story is independent readers around 9+, there were some more intense moments that I found upsetting and I feel that this is a book that could be read with a parent, or perhaps as part of a class, so that the the story can be used to open up a wider discussion.
