"Space adventures that cleverly combine music and magic"
Ella Crinkle’s aunt Belinda is famous, the first person to set foot on the beautiful purple planet Drumendus.
Ella’s been a ‘Drumgazer’ ever since but never expected she’d actually go there. But when she and her friend Freddie discover her aunt is planning a second solo trip to find the brother everyone has been told died on the return journey, well, of course they hitch a ride.
Drumendus is more wonderful and extraordinary than even Ella had imagined, with a natural soundscape that is a symphony of swirling breezes, distant waves and birdsong. Less welcome is the discovery that uncle Otto has set himself up as king to the people of the planet, using the magic music creates there to bully and oppress them.
Can Ella, her aunt and Freddie win the inhabitants’ trust and depose Otto? And will they ever make it home if they don’t?
This inventive, fast-moving adventure is full of music and magic, but also pinpoints the dangers of absolute power and the inequities of colonisation; fun and thought-provoking.
A mysterious planet. A remarkable family secret. And music . . . EVERYWHERE! Blast off to the planet Drumendus with twelve-year-old Ella Crinkle and her best friend Freddie, on a homemade spaceship invented by brilliant and eccentric Aunt Belinda, the most famous astronaut in history.
