For reasons they only come to understand at the end of the book, the two are flipped out of their little cart as it trundles through the model Viking village and into what seems to be a real Viking village with real Vikings. They’re wearing Viking cloaks so manage to pass themselves off as the niece and nephew of one of the villagers.
Some aspects of Viking life they quite like – the stories, the food – but other things are not so appealing: the toilets, owning thralls (slaves) oh, and Kat really doesn’t want to get married at twelve.
This fast-paced story is a great way to understand Viking life and conveys a huge amount of information while keeping readers on the edge of their seats: will Kat and Alfie find their way back to the 21st century before he’s sent off to be a warrior and she is introduced to her husband?
