This is an fun, 18 page illustrated children's book. The author's clever idea of making the character 'Hi' the embodiment of the 'hi' greeting allows several themes to be explored. Hi can travel the world through a magic portal, which is unlocked by saying the local greeting. On world hello day, Hi keen to make new friends.
He is a bit nervous that he won't pronounce the greeting correctly that will transport him to Egypt. But he has the courage to try and travel to Egypt to learn about that country. His adventures are told via 4 lines of rhyming text and colourful illustrations. Children are shown that perfectionism isn't needed, we just need to have an open mind in order to learn new things and embrace different languages , cultures and people.
At the back of this charming book is a page of Arabic words to try. The author definitely needs to write more books which transport Hi to other countries to learn other greetings and spread acceptance and friendship!
