Diving straight into action, Codename Eagle focuses on the French Resistance in the unoccupied South West of France in 1941. Following on from The Eagle Trail, seventeen year old Paul Hansen finds himself once more, smack in the middle of difficult decisions and surrounded by the very real possibility of injury or death. The friendship, trust and solidarity displayed in particular by the teenagers in this novel, highlights how war affects everything, including childhood. Robert Rigby beautifully balances excitement, action and intrigue with intelligent observations, historical facts and the harsh reality of a life spent resisting the enemy. The short sharp sentences and matter of fact revelations ratchet up the tension and creates a feeling of fear for what may come. Captivating and fast paced this is a very worthwhile read. While there are several skirmishes and battles of a violent nature, this may be suitable for younger teenagers. ~ Liz Robinson
