The book is divided into 5 sections and each section has an entertaining quiz at the end which could become brilliant family or classroom challenges.

The first section not only includes the fascinating worldwide origins of the game, but a very clear (even to me!) explanation of how to play the game with all its rules and laws. The next section deals with football clubs around the world, leagues, competitions, stadiums, and a really interesting section on how clubs are structured and funded.

Flag fanatics will love the next section which looks at all the countries, their national tournaments and of course The World Cup! The Football Family tells us all about what it is like to be a footballer and all sorts of other roles in football as well as facts about famous players. The final chapter really proves their point that football is a great starting point for learning, with ten sections examining football through ten different lenses from numbers, language, technology, the media and a look into the future.

It almost goes without saying that throughout the book there is an equal focus on women’s football and a good balance of diverse world coverage.

A really useful addition to any library and a gift that will bring enormous pleasure to any aspiring footballer or fan.
