No Privilege, Just Words reading list was created by teacher Alfie Egembah in response to the Black Lives Matter movement, with the aim of helping young people engage thoughtfully with issues of race, racism and identity through literature. The collection brings together powerful books by Black, Asian and ethnically diverse writers, offering young readers the opportunity to explore different perspectives and experiences. The initiative is part of Nexus Enfield, a community project run by the London Borough of Enfield's Behaviour Support Service. Nexus exists to connect schools, families and communities, creating projects and interventions that support children and young people, champion inclusion and drive positive change across the borough. Through No Privilege, Just Words, Nexus has helped place collections of these books into schools and libraries, ensuring that more young people have access to stories that reflect the richness and diversity of our society and encouraging informed, empathetic conversations about race and belonging. Because when everything else is stripped away, stories remain. No privilege. Just words.
