Sandy suspects something’s up in his hometown of Cleeby (seaside resort, big on beach and fish and chip shops) when the newsagent, Mr Norman’s head explodes, whooshing up to the ceiling before rolling across the floor and bumping into the comic rack. It’s not usual and it’s not right: Mr Norman has clearly been replaced by a robot.
Gifted with an over-active imagination, Sandy has trouble convincing anyone of what he’s seen, but his best friend Arjan believes him, at least he does are the two boys discover their headteacher is a robot too. All lines of enquiry point to Tony Toaster’s Toaster Factory and to Tony Toaster himself, an evil entrepreneur determined to rule the world with robots, starting in Cleeby. For a while it seems Sandy and Arjan will be toast, but with the help of a decidedly human robot, Colin, they find a way to fight back.
Jolly good fun from start to finish, Robots Stole My Mum! is a madcap adventure full of the unexpected, narrow escapes and scenes to make kids laugh out loud. Robot-tastic!
