An accident in a dress rehearsal sends Twelve year-old Anya running off stage and takes the reader back to when she first meets Seren. Anya moves to a new school and during one night stargazing with her parents wishes for a friend. The next day she rescues a strange pink-haired girl from a hedge who then acts as a catalyst for change as opening night arrives. 

The Girl with Stars in Her Eyes is an entertaining friendship story. I particularly liked the nuances that were included in the story. That Seren was able to be friends with everyone, but that was difficult for Anya to manage as she watched Seren befriend her bullies. It showed the complexity of relationships which I think added depth to the story.

I also liked that though the story is set up for Seren to be the friend that Anya had wished for, there was someone else better suited. It helped remove the pitfall in some more magical stories of what happens after the end, if the magical character is to leave and makes it more of an believable story for young readers by removing the reliance on magic.

In all this is an easy to read, funny and heartwarming read about building up confidence, finding your voice and building friendships.
