Full of romance and danger, this is an arresting adventure that slips effortlessly between our world and the dark world of the paranormal. Mackie Doyle is not what he seems. Despite his apparently normal life, Mackie is a Replacement; he comes from a sinister, underground world but was swapped at birth for a human baby. Now sixteen, Mackie’s allergies are putting his human life at risk and he is drawn back to his old world. Can he see off the dark powers that threaten to engulf him?
Here's what two major best-selling authors thought of The Replacement:
"I loved this eerie and beautiful story of ugly things. It should be read aloud after
dark, at a whisper" - Maggie Stiefvater, author of Shiver.
"I so loved this book. Mackie Doyle is one of the sweetest, strangest, most
magnetic heroes I've read in a long time. He charmed me and his story kept me up
at night." - Lauren Kate, author of Fallen.
Mackie Doyle is a replacement - a fairy child left in the crib of a human baby sixteen years ago, to replace the baby when it was stolen away by the fey. So though he lives in the small town of Gentry, Mackie's real home is the fey world of tunnels and black, murky water, a world of living dead girls ruled by a little tattooed princess. Now, because his fey blood gives him fatal allergies to iron, blood and consecrated ground, Mackie is slowly dying in the human world. Mackie would give anything just to be normal, to live quietly amongst humans, practice his bass guitar and spend time with his crush, Tate. But when Tate's baby sister goes missing, Mackie is drawn irrevocably back home to the fey underworld of Gentry, known as Mayhem, where he must face down the dark creatures, rescue the child, and find his rightful place - in our world, or theirs.

Rachael Bradley age 14 I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I liked the way it put a new spin on the idea of 'replacement'! I also though it was similar to the '13 ...' series (13 Secrets, 13 Treasures and 13 Curses) as they both involve a human baby being stolen and being replaced with a changeling (a fairy baby).
"Debut novelist Yovanoff ofers well-developed characters, a fascinating take on the
Fairy Court, and an exciting storyline... this book has all the makings of a success."
