Ancient Egypt provides the setting for this gripping story, more precisely Thebes and the court of Akhenaten. The central character has no name: he’s referred to in the main as Boy, later variously as Boy Who Did Not Bow to the King, and Twice Born. Anonymous he may be, but he’s a complete character – smart, honourable, kinder than he should be.
Taken by a tomb robber from the place he knows as home, he finds himself at the king’s court, surrounded by danger and intrigue. The historical setting is really well described, and integral to the action. Boy’s extra names give a hint of the adventures that make this such a satisfying story. ~ Andrea Reece
