Most people like good, but Sofia likes better. When her Abuelo (Grandad) hurts himself on a mountain of rubbish outside their local landfill site, she determines to take action and turn ‘Mount Trashmore’ into a park. It’s not easy, and she needs all her courage to enter City Hall and put her ideas to the grown-ups in charge.
With the help of friends and neighbours, Sofia proves that everyone has the power to change their world. It’s another uplifting and positive story in the thoroughly excellent The Questioneers series, and go-getter Sofia is a wonderful role-model for us all. Credit to David Roberts for his typically stylish and action-packed illustrations too.

Sofia Valdez, Future Prez Synopsis
Sofia Valdez did as much as she could for her family and friends and her whole neighborhood. A dreamer. A doer. A real-life go-getter. Most people like good, but Sofia liked better.
In the newest picture book in the mega-bestselling Questioneers series, Sofia Valdez fights for change and finds her voice as a community leader! Every morning, Abuelo walks Sofia to school . . . until one day, when Abuelo hurts his ankle at a local landfill and he can no longer do so. Sofia misses her Abuelo and wonders what she can do about the dangerous Mount Trashmore.
Then she gets an idea-the town can turn the slimy mess into a park! She brainstorms and plans and finally works up the courage to go to City Hall-only to be told by a clerk that she can't build a park because she's just a kid! Sofia is down but not out, and she sets out to prove what one kid can do.

Andrea Beaty Press Reviews
A very welcome addition to The Questioneers series (which launched Rosie Revere, Ada Twist and Iggy Peck) stars a Mexican-American girl in an inspirational story about standing up for what you believe in. -- The Bookseller
Praise for The Questioneers;
“It’s a great way to remind children to try and not worry if they don’t succeed the first time.” The Guardian
“A fabulous, really original, funny and clever book, just perfect for preschoolers.” The Times
“Brainy and inquisitive, the heroine of rhyming story [Ada Twist] is a wonderful role model for young girls.” Daily Express
“Inclusive and empowering Ada Twist touches on themes of never giving up and problem solving, a clever and engaging celebration of curiosity.” WRD
“A book with great sense of rhythm and lots to discuss that could encourage girls to experiment, invent and get things wrong without worrying about it. Hallelujah!” The Bookbag
“The book is a great way to develop a child’s problem-solving skills, but most importantly it empowers a child to fail on their way to success. This is a brilliant book.” Minerva Reads Blog
“Ada Twist is a stereotype-smashing tale which celebrates the power of curiosity and scientific enquiry.” The Little Rebels Children’s Book Award
About Andrea Beaty
Andrea Beaty is the author of many beloved children’s books, including the bestselling Questioneers series, I Love You Like Yellow, Happy Birthday, Madame Chapeau, and One Girl. She lives just outside Chicago.
"I was raised in southern Illinois in a town so small I knew everybody and their pets. And they all knew me. I was one of six kids and we spent our summer days traipsing through the fields and forests hunting for adventure. We often found it. And sometimes it found us. Always, it was fun and often, we laughed so hard we blew Orange Crush or Grape Nehi Soda out our noses. I still avoid Grape Nehi . . . just in case. I was a big reader as a kid and LOVED Nancy Drew and Trixie Beldon Mysteries. Then I moved on to Agatha Christie books and then the classics. Don’t tell anyone, but my secret ambition is to star in a Broadway musical and I am often tempted to break into song and dance at very odd moments. Mostly in the frozen food section of my grocery store. They have very good lighting."
