"No one is too small to make a difference" Greta Thunberg

The Global Climate Crisis is the biggest issue of our age and will arguably affect the next and subsequent generations exponentially. Whilst World Leaders posture, politicize and procrastinate, the voice of young people rings clear, lead by Greta Thunberg, the Swedish teenage activist. Across the country children have been inspired to try to make a difference and draw attention to the emergency, through Climate Marches and campaigning but also through their own behaviour and lifestyle changes.

At LoveReading4Kids, we aren’t just passionate about good books; we are also passionate about our planet and hope this selection of books will help to educate and enthuse our young readers.

Our recommended reads include books which are highly topical covering everything from recycling and biodiversity to global warming and eco-tips, and even measuring your carbon footprint. But, we’ve also chosen a number of novels and picture books that have some sort of eco-friendly strand.

The Authors4Oceans campaign was founded by Lauren St John and is supported by some of our most loved and respected authors and illustrators including Michael Morpurgo, Jacqueline Wilson and Chris Riddell. Committed to preserving our world for future generations through education and action, there is a wealth of information and resources to be found on their website -

"For the first time in earth's history a species has the ability to prevent itself
from extinction, that species is US …" Jane Goodall, primatologist and anthropologist.

Author: Michael Foreman Illustrator: Michael Foreman Format: Paperback Release Date: 02/01/2020

Michael Foreman’s dazzling watercolours bring the beauty of the natural world into readers’ hands in this outstanding picture book, reminding us all how precious our planet is, and how we need to care for it. A little girl watches the sun rise and then the moon as it follows, and thinks of all the creatures under the sky.  With her brother, she explores the seashore and together they create a mini-world in a rockpool. This shows them just how fragile nature is, and the threat it faces from pollution. Together brother and sister clean the pool and determine to ask other children to help.  First published thirty years ago, One World is recognised as a classic, and its message is even more important today. A beautiful, inspiring and timely book.
